10 Women’s Trivia Items Discussed In The Book Random Obessions

My publishers at Viva Editions asked me for ten trivia items related to women from my newly released book Random Obsessions (2009). I’m actually at their offices in San Francisco right now and so I better get this done, right?

Seriously, here we go…

1. Cannibal Islands: A little old lady hanging out her wash has a secret about people eating people. Is it true? It may actually be a cultural oddity as well as a delight.

2. Salem Witch Trials: An ex-slave reveals in court that the Devil visited her. Hmm…

3. Obama Wonderama: Candy Del Rio is a burlesque dancer. She is quite revealing about her new dance, the Obama Wonderama that Newsweek also snapped photos of.

4. Goddess Athena: Her statues are all over Washington, D.C. What could this suggest about our architectural designers?

5. Fannie Jones: A mysterious ex-slave once discussed her past and spoke kindly of her masters. Is that wrong?

6. Sue Laws: She says she has Morgellons Diseases, a condition where microscopic filaments protrude from her skin. But it could just be part of an Internet hysteria.

7. Alice in Wonderland Syndrome: OK, this is named after a female character. But you can be male and suffer from this condition where the world morphs around you.

8. Bean Pimp: Julia Heatherwick used to work summers with soybeans. She mated them. Don’t ask. Read the book.

9. Dorothy: Just how many Wizard of Oz characters based on her have there been? Too many. Seriously. Get the book.

10. Nude Women: Many nudes are discussed in Random Obsessions including a painting of Sarah Palin in the buff that hangs in a Chicago bar.
