Creepy Dude Arrest: Man Tried To Kidnap Teen, Police Say

The father of a 15-year-old girl spotted a suspect who he believed matched the description of the man who tried to kidnap his daughter on July 8. Police swept in and made the arrest.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, on July 9, at 8:35 a.m., police arrested Manuel Valles Polanco, 24, of Bakersfield, for attempted kidnap, annoying a child and resisting arrest.

Police said that on July 8, a 15-year-old girl reported that at about 7:45 a.m. that morning, she was walking in the area of Sandra Street and Merrimac Avenue when an unidentified man approached her from behind, picked her up and tried to carry her away.

The suspect immediately saw an unidentified elderly couple nearby and this prompted him let her go and he ran north on Sandra Drive. The girl reported the offense and provided a description to police and her parents.

Police didn’t say whether they are investigating whether the girl knew the man or if he was a complete stranger trying to make an abduction.

According to officials, on July 9, at 8:35 a.m., the girl’s father observed Manuel Valles Polanco, who matched the girl’s description of her attacker, at Merrimac Avenue and Famborough Drive. Her father called the police and when officers attempted to contact the Polanco he ran and then fought the officers as they arrested him. Police didn’t say what might have been said between the officers and the Polanco.

Police said the girl later identified Polanco as the suspect who attempted to carry her away on the prior date and he was booked into the Kern County Jail.
