Desert Meth House: Child, 5 Pit Bulls, Chihuahua, Living In Squalor

Arguing parents, a dad on meth, disgusting living conditions, and a kid and pets living in the middle of it. That was the situation that sheriff’s officials uncovered on Sept. 12 in Ridgecrest, Calif.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, at 10:30 p.m. deputies were dispatched to 1442 W. Coral Street, Ridgecrest for a peace disturbance. On arrival, deputies found Nicholas Metz and his wife Suzanne McElwain in an argument.

Officials said Metz was immediately arrested after he appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine.

During the investigation deputies found the home was extremely filthy, had no hot water and had 5 pit bulls and a chihuahua living in the home. The couple’s nine-year-old daughter was taken into protective custody and transported to the Jamison Children’s Center.

Metz was booked into the Kern County Jail in Ridgecrest for being under the influence of illegal drugs and for child endangerment. McElwain was charged with child endangerment. She was also charged with having unlicensed pets.

Officials said McElwain was released on a citation.
