Brush fires on the Interstate 5 Grapevine forced road closures late Wednesday afternoon.
One traveler, Laura McCammon, sent out several messages via Twitter about the fire. “Another fire on Grapevine” she wrote at about 5:30 p.m. She also posted photos of driving through the blaze-ridden stretch of interstate freeway. According the the California Highway Patrol, the freeway was closed in the area of Fort Tejon on the Grapevine at 5:28 p.m.
At 5:38 p.m. Kiyoshi Tomono of KGET tweeted, “Interstate 5 Closed in both directions due to smoke from a brush fire near Castaic.” Just twenty minutes later at 6 p.m. he tweeted again: “Unclear from CHP whether lanes have reopened on Intersate 5 near Castaic due to brush fire. Drive at your own risk of delay.” That’s likely, because at 5:52 p.m., the CHP announced that southbound lanes on I-5 had been re-opened. There was still no word about northbound lanes opening as of 6:45 p.m.
In the meantime, McCammon had taken photos of smoke plumes and flames. She even tweeted: “Looks like we made through just in time since they close Grapevine!!!”
In an interview with Face News via Twitter, McCammon said, “ It was scary, and from what I understand I just made it through. It was small when I saw it from Lyons Ave then by the time I got there, it was everywhere on that side [near traffic lanes].”

I wonder if this is one of the fires I saw on Sunday when I drove to LAX? Looks like the same area, I took a few photos with my camera phone, at that point they were very small and contained, but when I drove home one had burned a small hill and was still slowly burning away.
This was near Fort Tejon… I didn’t list the exact location from the CHP website…
