Bakersfield is a city with a large population of Catholics. Some with superstitious beliefs who have been known to carry supposed magic beans in their pockets. Others carry with them a simple holy faith in signs that can appear anywhere in their life, marking important saints, the Virgin Mary and even Jesus. These signs can take any shape or form, but often mark intense religious moments for those who witness them.
Over the years there have been several religious apparition sitings in Bakersfield. Outdoor Christmas lights have cast Mary-like shadows. A knot in a tree strangely resembled Jesus. The latest? A salsa stain splatter oddly may be a sign that God is hot on the trail of one East Bakersfield family.
KBAK reports that one family believes they have been blessed with a miracle. Elvia Alvarez said to the TV station she was blending salsa in her kitchen when some splattered on the wall. Alvarez said the stain dripped into the image of the Virgin Mary.
She told the TV station the Virgin Mary shape is no coincidence. She believes the tomato, chili pepper, onion and cilantro splatter should be interpreted as “people need to start being good toward one another.”
Since the stain, Alvarez claims there’s often a strong smell of roses in her home, though there aren’t any fresh roses close to her home on Northrup Street.

I’m Christian, but not Catholic, and find these ‘Virgin Mary’ sightings to be just plain weird.
